Our very own anti-scurvy Festival... Potent Lemon Drop Martinis all round as Wally & Lori (Canadian's from SY 'Do-Little') threw an 'anti-scurvy lemon festival' and introduced us to 'Bite the Bag'. It starts with a large brown paper bag that has to be picked up by mouth, held while you stand up straight and then lay it back down without touching the ground with your hands or knees. Simple enough in the beginning, but after each round, an inch is cut from the top of the bag. Between the martinis and our lack of flexibility, there were a few close calls with gravel-grazed faces, but the die-hards lasted well into the night. Women and children fared much better than the men; competition was fierce and there was a heck of a lot of personal coaching going on. Lori and Wally were as expert as you can get with Wally psyching the bag before each attempt and Lori hollering "bounce, bounce, suck". Seemed funny at first, but as the bag got lower bouncing came into its own and the war-cry quickly caught-on. Who'd have believe that Clare was so flexible. All that yoga paid off and when she finally picked up the flat piece of brown paper that used to be the bottom of the bag. Then she showed us we never stood a chance by picking up a €1 coin in her teeth with only her feet touching the ground. Going to miss Tapas... Yet another busy social week. Cartagena is having another great celebration. It has a fancy name, but basically it's a month-long tapas crawl. 67 restaurants around town have joined the fun and are selling their speciality tapas with a beer or wine for €2.50. You sample at least six and then vote for your favourite. We went tapas crawling last night and didn't get home till 1am, full up and happy - and all for €10 per person. Only 63 to go. Great idea. Love it here. Oh, and the 'Winter Job List' isn't getting any smaller. |
