Yet another 3:00am night out last night. Started at Andraes’ restaurant as usual and at closing time Andreas, his wife and daughter and the barman took us ‘clubbing’ (except that they can’t seem to get that word right and it comes out sounding like ‘crabbing’ - so now we just call it crabbing ‘cause that kind of best describes how we look walking home anyway.
Went to a bar so tiny that the whole place is the dance floor. Everyone just dances where they stand - no room for chairs and the DJ has a little corner so small that he can hardly move and when he likes your Greek dancing, he rings a school bell and throws his arms all over the place laughing and pointing. Weirdest thing I’ve ever been involved in. And we were involved - just love the Greek music and dancing so much that we can’t seem to help ourselves. All of a sudden you find yourself with your arms in the air and your feet doing God knows what and the next thing there are four or five of you with arms on each others shoulders kicking away to a rhythm that we seem to hear differently than the Greeks. To show their appreciation, those not dancing kneel down and clap in time with the music - that’s Lenny in the top right photo (still wearing that bloody Mambo Guitar shirt we bought in about 2001). When we arrived we ordered 2 beers and everyone just looked at each other and laughed. ‘Don’t serve beer here’ only hard liquor and Sangria (sweet wine on ice). Oh our heads hurt this morning.
Tonight is yet another yachtie get-together and then a night off before..... GREEK DANCING NIGHT! Ha! Oh but I do love this country.
Finally left the marina and saw what we'd been missing. The Greek Ionian has to be one of our favourite places in the world.
