| We’re on Island Time and our updates are slipping. We’ve sailed and lived aboard in the Mediterranean since 2009 so we are used to wintering in the one place for 5 - 6 months of the year where the yachting community live side-by-side in a marina during the cold months with the most unpredictable weather. We are all quite used to the transient lifestyle and look forward to a few months of having familiar neighbours. A huge change to the normal nomadic life. Having crossed the Atlantic, the treacherous weather is in summer not winter. So we have to hide from the hurricanes in summer and sail in the winter. There are so many other differences on this side of the Atlantic. Alcohol is going to be a bit of a trick. The Caribbean islands are generally low/no tax and that means you can buy a 750ml bottle of English Gin for about US$7.00. Spirits are so much cheaper than the mixers that it’s more profitable for the bars to give you pure spirits with lots of ice and a tiny dash of mixer. Definitely going to have to pace myself. My favourite ‘Painkiller’ is just $3.00 at happy hour. Oooh yeah! And the great news is that my youngest daughter has landed herself a job in Melbourne. In a matter on one week Georgia and Jack signed a lease on a place in Brisbane and Beej moved to Melbourne. So the house is finally able to be an income stream. Yay! Money coming in. A novelty for sure. It’s been 8 years this month since Lenny and Ian sailed out of the Gold Coast and we begin to live our dream of sailing the world. On reflection, we can't imagine a more wonderful way to have spend our lives. When we look at our photos, a different country every year, and chat with our cruising friends who are now spread all over the world, we can’t help but thank the universe for our wonderful life. Life is good. |
